Ben Sasse Receives Inaugural Award for Civic Education Leadership
Former University of Florida President and Hamilton School Professor Ben Sasse was honored with the inaugural Award for Civic Education Leadership at the Jack Miller Center’s National Summit on Civic Education.
Former Hamilton School Director and close friend of Sasse, Will Inboden, accepted the award and delivered remarks on Senator Sasse’s behalf, recognizing his leadership in civic education and constitutional self-government.
In his remarks, Sasse reflected on the enduring importance of the American constitutional tradition and the role civic education plays in sustaining it for future generations.
“Our Constitution is the greatest political document that has ever been written,” Sasse wrote. “Americans said: No, God gives us rights by nature. We’re created equal.”
Sasse emphasized that civic education is rooted not simply in politics, but in the communities and institutions where Americans learn to serve one another and pass on the responsibilities of freedom.
“The most important things in life aren’t in Washington, D.C.,” he wrote. “The most important things in life are found in communities all across the country.”
Looking toward the future, Sasse encouraged citizens and educators alike to steward the American constitutional system with confidence and hope.
“Brighten your corner. Reject the screamers. Teach the American idea.”
