Trained at Stanford and Cambridge, Carolina Armenteros is an intellectual historian specializing in the history of social, political, and religious thought in Europe and the Atlantic world from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries. Her work focuses on the legacies of the Enlightenment and Counter-Enlightenment, in particular the founding of conservatism, as well as the intellectual history of monarchy and constitutionalism, Catholic social and political thought, developing social and political views of women, and the relationship between religion, society, and the emergence of the modern social sciences. Before coming to Hamilton, Armenteros taught and conducted research at the University of the Sorbonne Nouvelle (Paris III), the American University of Paris, the University of Cambridge, the University of Groningen, the Instituto de Altos Estudios en Ciencias Sociales and the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in Santo Domingo.
