Dr. Gianna Englert Wins Inaugural Zuckert Book Prize for Democracy Tamed
The Hamilton School is proud to celebrate Dr. Gianna Englert, whose book Democracy Tamed: French Liberalism and the Politics of Suffrage (Oxford University Press, 2024) has won the inaugural Catherine & Michael Zuckert Book Prize from the Association for the History of Political Thought.
The prize committee highlighted the book’s fresh account of how nineteenth-century French liberals used the idea of “political capacity” to shape debates about suffrage—work that combines close textual analysis with big, timely questions about liberalism and democracy. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Englert on this distinguished honor.
