As the Hamilton School expands, so too does our commitment to broadening the scope of higher education, which includes offering advanced degrees. In the fall of 2026, four new major programs will be introduced: the Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in History of Ideas, and the Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in War, Statecraft and Strategy. By studying how ideas emerge, evolve, and influence society, student gain the perspective and critical skills to understand today’s world and how to influence the future.

The History of Ideas PhD is a rigorous, interdisciplinary program for scholars who want to explore the evolution of thought across cultures and centuries. Drawing from philosophy, history, literature, politics, and the arts, candidates engage deeply with the works and debates that have defined human understanding—preparing to contribute original scholarship and lead in academia, public discourse, and beyond.

The War, Statecraft and Strategy MA equips students to analyze conflict, diplomacy, and military strategy through historical, political, and theoretical lenses.
