In this opening session of the Hire Education series, Nicole Mascera shares an insider’s view from decades of interviewing and hiring candidates into competitive roles at a high-profile NYC hedge fund. Students will learn how hiring managers and HR teams actually screen humanities backgrounds: what stands out, what gets overlooked, and the common ways a strong academic record can be misread. Nicole will show how to translate core academic skills such as argument construction, historical analysis, close reading, and debate into language that appears in job descriptions and resonates in interviews. The session also looks beyond the offer letter. Participants will examine how performance and career growth are evaluated once someone is hired, and what separates people who advance from those who plateau. Drawing on real patterns from the hiring side rather than generic advice, Nicole will highlight the habits, communication styles, and approaches that make candidates and new hires stand out.
