The Hamilton School, along with the Levin College of Law, the Robert E. Beren Program, and Chabad UF Jewish Student Center, recently welcomed U.S. District Judge Roy Altman to the University of Florida Levin College of Law for a talk on his new book, “Israel on Trial.”
Speaking on October 1, Altman addressed a full audience on the claims made against Israel since the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023. He examined how those claims have been framed in public debate, the standards of evidence that should apply to them, and the broader implications for the United States and its alliances. Altman, a former federal prosecutor and longtime federal judge, drew on both legal analysis and his own perspective as an American who immigrated from Venezuela. The talk mixed historical context, strategic considerations, and questions of civic judgment, and it was followed by a lively question-and-answer session with students, faculty, and community members.
The Hamilton School was pleased to host the conversation as part of its ongoing series of public lectures on law, history, and the challenges facing free societies.
