Tom Angier

Dr. Tom Angier was educated mainly in the UK and hold PhDs in Philosophy from the Universities of Cambridge and Toronto. His research focuses on Aristotelian and Neo-Aristotelian ethical and political theory. His fourth monograph, Human Nature, Human Goods: A Theory of Natural Perfectionism, was published by Cambridge University Press in May 2026. This builds on his work on Natural Law, for instance The Cambridge Handbook of Natural Law and Human Rights (2023), Natural Law Theory (2021, in the Cambridge ‘Elements’ Series) and The Cambridge Companion to Natural Law Ethics (2019). His current big project is to elaborate a Neo-Aristotelian theory of justice for the modern state. This theory will challenge the Rawlsian approach to political justice and argue – in line with the Aristotelian tradition – that the principal concern of the state should be to protect and promote a virtuous citizenry.
